Eight AI visibility trackers compared on the question that matters after you sign up: what does it actually record about each answer, and can you act on it?

Every AI visibility tracker promises the same thing: it will tell you whether ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews name your brand. The difference shows up after you sign up, when you open a reading and try to work out what to do about it. Some trackers give you a score. Others give you the answers, the cited pages and the brands named instead of you.

So this comparison asks one question of each tracker: what does it record? Disclosure: alwayscited is ours, and it is ranked first. Every other entry is limited to what the vendor's own website said when we read it on 31 October 2026.

What an LLM visibility tracker should record

Before comparing tools, it helps to know what you will need from a reading. Five things:

  1. Mentions: which brands each answer names, and whether you are one of them.
  2. Citations: which pages each answer links to as sources.
  3. The answer itself: the text, so you can see how you were described and why a competitor came first.
  4. Engine by engine: a result per engine, because a single blended number hides the engine where you are missing.
  5. History: the same prompts on a schedule, because the models behind these answers are not deterministic. OpenAI's API documentation says outputs may differ from request to request.

Some trackers add sentiment and share of voice on top. Those are useful summaries, but they are built from the first four, so check those first.

How to choose an AI visibility tracker

  1. Open a sample reading before you pay. Ask to see one answer, end to end. If you cannot see the answer text and the cited pages, you will struggle to act on what it tells you.
  2. Check engines on the plan you would pay for. Several trackers cover fewer engines on entry plans.
  3. Count your prompts. Five per topic is a sensible minimum. Multiply by your topics and compare plans on that.
  4. Look for history. One reading is a sample. Daily readings on fixed prompts give you a trend.
  5. Decide who acts on it. A tracker tells you where you are missing. Getting onto the pages the engines cite is separate work, and it is what our placement tiers do.

Questions

What is an LLM visibility tracker?
A tool that puts a fixed set of prompts to AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, and to Google's AI Overviews, on a schedule, and records whether your brand is named, which pages are cited and how that changes over time.
What should an AI visibility tracker record?
At minimum: which brands each answer names, whether you are one of them, and which pages it cites. The most useful trackers also keep the answer text, so you can read why a competitor was named.
Is a free LLM visibility checker enough?
For a first reading, yes. A free check shows where you stand today. Because answers vary from run to run, you need repeated readings on the same prompts to see a trend, which is what a tracker is for.
How much does an AI visibility tracker cost?
On the vendors' own pricing pages on 31 October 2026, entry plans in this list ranged from $9.80 a month (Keyword.com, 20 credits) to $295 a month (AthenaHQ Starter, billed monthly), and some vendors offer free plans or trials.
