Best AI rank trackers for ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews in 2026

Eight AI rank trackers compared as rank trackers: how often they check, how many prompts you get, which engines they read and what they cost in US dollars.

Classic rank trackers tell you where you sit on Google for a keyword, every day. AI rank trackers try to do the same for answers: put the same prompts to ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews on a schedule and record whether you were named, how early and which pages were cited.

That makes them a different choice from broader visibility platforms, which we compare in our roundup of AI search visibility tools. Here the questions are the ones you would ask of any rank tracker: how often does it check, how many prompts do I get, which engines, and what does it cost.

Disclosure: alwayscited is ours and is ranked first. Every other entry uses only what the vendor's own site said when we read it on 31 October 2026.

What makes a good AI rank tracker

  • Daily checks. The models behind AI answers are not deterministic, so the same prompt can return a different answer. Daily readings turn noise into a trend.
  • A fixed prompt set you control. Your prompts, written the way buyers ask, kept the same over time.
  • The engines your buyers use. ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews at minimum, and ideally Gemini, Perplexity and AI Mode too.
  • The answer and its sources kept. A position with no answer behind it cannot tell you why it moved.
  • Google rankings alongside. AI Overviews draw on Google's ranking systems, so seeing both side by side explains a lot.

How to set up AI rank tracking well

  1. Write prompts before you pick a tool. Five per topic, the way buyers ask. Count them; that tells you which plan you need.
  2. Track the same prompts every day. Do not edit a prompt mid stream. Add new ones as a new set.
  3. Read the answers, not just the score. When a competitor appears, open the pages the answer cited.
  4. Track Google too. Google says its AI features use its core Search ranking systems, so when AI Overview citations change, check your rankings for the same topic.
  5. Report trends, not days. One day's answer is a sample.

Not sure you need daily tracking yet? You can try a free check first: five buyer prompts across Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, with every answer and its sources. Once you have a few weeks of readings, turning them into a competitive number is straightforward, and our guide to share of voice covers how. Questions

What is an AI rank tracker?
A tool that runs a fixed set of prompts through AI engines such as ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews on a schedule, and records whether your brand is named, where in the answer, and which pages are cited. It is the AI equivalent of tracking keyword positions.
Is there a ChatGPT rank tracker?
Yes. Every tool in this list tracks ChatGPT on at least some plans. Check whether ChatGPT is included on the entry plan or an add on.
How often should an AI rank tracker check?
Daily if you are actively working on a topic, because answers vary from run to run and daily readings show which change moved which answer. Weekly is the minimum for a useful trend.
Do AI rank trackers show my position in ChatGPT?
There is no fixed position in a written answer, so trackers report whether you were named, how early, and how often across many runs. Some also join that to your Google ranking for the same keyword.
